One of my all time favorite illustrators is the Swedish John Bauer, who illustrated children’s books, that are very well-known here in Sweden. He’s known for his mystical little creatures and inviroments with trolls and fairies in a typical Swedish forest. I love the mystique in his artwork and have found lots of inspiration from his art.
A few days ago I made a random paper sketch, that I wanted to work on digitally, inspired by Bauer’s playful and innocent, yet dark vibe.
Totally no plan behind how I’ll go about working on this, which is why it’s so freaking FUN! I’ve already learned a few new tricks….Photoshop, I tell ya…no end to the possibilities. Always learning stuff, yet I’ve been working with it for 15-16 years. NUTS!
Many of you asked how I work digitally. I used to use a mouse before, but it takes much too long just doing lines. So I bought a tablet a bit over a year ago, which is what I always use to work with whenever I do an illustration. There’s really no need for one if you’re using Photoshop as an editor program, but when you work with details in illustrations, you don’t wanna get caught up on the minor stuff. So that’s when it’s totally worth the money getting yourself a good tablet, and they don’t have to be that expensive – there are some pretty decent ones for around 60 Euros
